Whatever it is that we want to achieve in life, whatever goals we want to accomplish not only for ourselves for the benefit of our family and community it has to begin somewhere.
For a lot of people the first step is always the most difficult. Its that first big step into the unknown. Whatever it is you are aiming for its always unknown territory. Lots of mental blocks make it difficult to take that first step.
Here are some “Don’t” which I have found invaluable in my experience.
1. DON’T WAIT UNTIL EVERYTHING IS PERFECT
Don’t wait until all the ducks are lined up. If you are waiting for everything to be just right before you start then you will wait forever. You see you will always find something which makes you think again. In fact if you are looking for everything to be perfect this is usually an indication that there are other deeper beliefs at work. But that’s for another day.
2. DON’T WAIT FOR THE AGREEMENT OF OTHERS
Don’t wait until everyone agrees with you on your goals, ideas, dreams etc. Let me tell you from my own experience not everyone will and ask yourself this question. Why do you need everyone’s approval anyway. If you wait for approval from everyone you are in for a long wait.
3. DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL THE SKILLS
This is a common excuse for not starting. But in actually doing, you learn far more than waiting. Skills are only developed by doing. Sure you will make mistakes, so what, at least you will be honing your skills to make your self better. If you think about it how many skills are you going to need to achieve what you want. Probably lots and there will be some you have never thought of yet. So isn’t it better to start and learn as you go than spend months or years developing skills which you may or may not need.
So best time to start is NOW
So once you have started these are a few tips which I have used in my experience which you may find helpful in keeping you going.
1. BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE GOING FOR
This is essential to keep the motivation levels high. If you don’t believe in your goals, your dreams then you will easily lose motivation and give up.
2. EXPECT A TOUGH ROAD AHEAD
Achieving your goals and dreams is not easy. It can be a tough journey, demanding your time, your discipline and it will certainly mean facing challenges that you never anticipated. But expecting it to be tough actually makes it easier to deal with. At least you won’t be surprised and lose heart when the going gets tough.
3. TAKE A STEP AT A TIME
Achieving your goals should be challenging and at times it can seem overwhelming. But if you take it a step at a time it does not feel so daunting. Success was not achieved in one giant step but in lots of tiny steps in the right direction. In my experience doing something everyday towards your goals is the key.
